1968 Plymouth Fury – Classic Commercial

In 1967, Sonny & Cher brought “The Beat Goes On” to the world and showed through their lyrics how new trends appear at every moment while other things remain the same. In 1968, Plymouth connected its increase in customers from 1967 and forward to this idea in its Plymouth Fury advertising.

This video features a classic Plymouth Fury car commercial that emphasizes how the influx of new customers started a momentum, or beat, that by 1968 wasn’t stopping.

The commercial has a lot of great points: A flashing turn signal tail light is coupled with a voice over to connect the new Fury with this “beat.” The music, a new rendition of the chorus, is then coupled with the camera panning outward to show the car and the narrator describing how the Fury, an improvement on Plymouth’s past vehicles, is purposefully designed with public automobile design preference trends in mind.
