How To Change Your Oil Yourself

Changing the oil in your car is vital if you want to keep the motor in proper working condition. You don’t have to spend the additional money at a mechanic getting your oil changed if you know how to do it yourself. First, look under the car for the drain plug for the oil plan. If the car sits low to the ground, you want to make sure the car is on ramps to make it easier to get underneath the vehicle. It will take about 15 minutes for the oil to drain. Once all the oil is drained, replace the plug. Change the oil filter that is often located near the oil pan or under the hood near the oil cap. Make sure you use the proper wrench to remove the filter as some of them can dent the filter. Install the new filter, and fill the car with oil in the proper location after finding the oil cap. You need to make sure you have the proper oil weight for your vehicle before adding the oil. Check the dipstick to make sure it’s at the appropriate level before driving.
