The commercial begins with an animated black-and-white musical bit in which a newspaper reporter standing on a city street corner starts singing that the big news is the DeSoto. Soon after, he is picked up by a female driver who starts singing about the car’s fantastic automatic shifting ability that makes the ride better than any manual car around.<\/p>\n
As with many commercials from the time, this one eventually reveals that car buyers were interested in vehicles that seemed to mimic the sleekness and power of airplanes. Informative news-style ads also held great appeal. After the musical bit ended, the commercial immediately switched to live action with a narrator outlining the superior performance of an automatic vehicle equipped with a “Power Flight” transmission.<\/p>\n
