2002 Mercedes E430 — Programmed (Cloned) or Virginized ECM
Should I choose a programmed (cloned) or virginized ECM?
Mercedes ECMs are VIN-locked. Unlike many GM ECMs that we can pre-program from a VIN alone, Mercedes typically requires bench programming or a virgin reset. Choose the option that fits how you (or your shop) will install it.
Programmed (Cloned)
Programmed to your VIN, plug and play. No dealer visit.
- Requires sending us your original ECM — prepaid shipping label provided after purchase
- VIN, immobilizer, key data & coding copied from your original
- Original keys continue to work
- No Star / Xentry / SCN coding required
- Install the reman ECM and drive
Best for: DIY and shops that want zero dealer programming.
Virginization
Also called Unlocked / Renew / Factory Reset
- Module reset to virgin factory state
- Behaves like a brand-new dealer ECM
- Requires flash, coding, personalization & activation
- Not plug-and-play — car will not start until programmed
Best for: Shops with Star / Xentry that prefer to program in-house.

Frequently Asked Questions
Virginization unlocks / resets the module to a factory virgin state. It then needs to be programmed like a brand-new dealer part (flash, code, personalize, activate) with Star / Xentry. Not plug-and-play.
Virginization: No. The reman ECM ships unlocked / virgin — your shop programs it after install. No original required.
Virginization: Ships from stock after virginization — no wait on your original module.
