What a 2012 Ford Fusion 2.5L PCM Fits, and What Arrives

This listing covers one application: the 2012 Ford Fusion built with the 2.5L engine, supplied as a refurbished engine computer.

The condition is refurbished, not new. You order first, then we ask for your VIN, program the module to your car and test it before the box leaves. A self-addressed envelope rides in the same box, and your old computer goes back in it as the core.

This listing is not a repair of the unit currently in your car, and it is not a body control module or a stand-alone transmission control module. It is a different physical module, supplied programmed to your VIN.

Engine size is the single detail most likely to send out the wrong part, so it is worth settling before you order.

Confirm Which 2012 Fusion Engine You Have Before You Order

The 2012 Fusion is catalogued here by engine size, and there are three gasoline listings. The 2.5L is the engine on this page. The 3.5L sits on its own listing, the 2012 Ford Fusion 3.5L PCM, and the 3.0L sits on a third, the 2012 Ford Fusion 3.0L PCM.

Order by engine size, not by model name. Year and model read the same across all of them, so a module chosen on "2012 Fusion" alone is a one in three guess.

Your VIN settles it. Send it to us and we check the application against this listing before anything ships. If the old module is already out of the car, read us the numbers printed on its label as well.

Other Fusion years sit on the Ford Fusion engine computer listings page.

What Is Still Required After a 2012 Fusion PCM Goes In

We program and test the replacement PCM using your VIN before shipment. VIN programming and the Fusion's PATS anti-theft setup are separate matters; the included VIN work does not by itself promise that every on-vehicle step is complete.

You or your installer handles removal and fitting. Follow the supplied instructions and the service information for your exact car. Check that it starts and rescan for faults after installation. Include labor and any required vehicle-level setup when comparing the total cost with a repair or another replacement.

Before booking additional programming, give Car Computer Exchange the VIN and complete module label and check the instructions for this order. Our warranty terms exclude reprogramming by another source. No exception for outside PATS work is promised here.

A send-in repair works on the module you supply. This listing provides a different module, programmed to your VIN before it ships.

Check the Cause Before You Replace a 2012 Fusion PCM

A wrench light and a sudden loss of power on a 2012 Fusion has a documented cause that is not the engine computer. NHTSA investigation PE13-003 covers "MY 2009-2013 Escape/Mariner/Fusion/Milan w/2.5L/3.0L engines" and describes throttle body motor contacts developing resistance, after which "the Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) or Wrench light will illuminate and the vehicle may enter a limited limp home mode." Ford's recorded response was a powertrain calibration update plus throttle body changes, not a new computer.

That does not clear the module. It means a symptom by itself will not tell you which part to order.

Internal module codes warrant diagnosis of the computer and its supporting circuits. A drivability complaint without stored codes does not establish the cause either. Have the fault reproduced and diagnosed before replacing anything.

Your Old Fusion PCM, the Warranty and the Return Window

The lifetime warranty requires return of your old computer unless a core charge was applied at purchase. The policy sets out these conditions:

  • The core has to arrive in good rebuildable condition, sent within 21 days.
  • Cover is parts only, for as long as you own the Fusion, up to two replacement units.
  • Where no core comes back at all, the policy allows a charge equal to 50% of what you paid, depending on your order terms and any core charge applied at purchase.

Eligible returns fall within 60 days of purchase and must be authorized before you ship anything back. A damaged or faulty module needs reporting within 5 days of delivery. This is a gas module rather than a repair service, so a return carries a 25% processing fee and a $50 programming fee, which is why the return policy is worth reading before you order.

BUYER BEWARE! NOT ALL COMPUTER SELLERS ARE EQUAL.

CarComputerExchange fully rebuilds and tests ALL computers. We are the ONLY seller that runs each computer through a computer aided vehicle simulator that tests every circuit in the module. Other companies run limited tests.
Most companies run limited tests. Some online stores simply repaint old units and sell without testing. Don't fall for the CHEAPER option.
Our testing & rebuilding process starts with a deep visual evaluation of the circuit board and all the electronic components. From water or acid corrosion, to fire or burn damage, we pay attention to every detail. We also scan the ECU memory or CPU to make sure that it is working properly.
We then test the ECU's with our proprietary electronic lab equipment on our bench, which emulates the car's engine to ensure accuracy in every diagnosis.

Frequently asked questions

Is an ECM or an ECU a different part from a PCM on a 2012 Fusion?

No. They are four names for one part. Ford calls it the powertrain control module. The labels ECM, engine control module and ECU point at that same unit, so a 2012 Ford Fusion 2.5L engine computer is this same part. A body control module or a separate transmission control module is a different part with its own listing.

Does the included VIN programming guarantee no PATS or key work is needed?

No such guarantee is made here. VIN programming is included before shipment, while PATS and key setup concern the car's security system. Follow the instructions for the supplied unit and your exact Fusion. Check with our team before booking additional programming because outside reprogramming voids the warranty. Do not assume you need new keys or that a locksmith visit is always unnecessary.

Does this fit a 2012 Fusion Hybrid? That is also a 2.5L.

This page is the gasoline 2.5L listing. For a Hybrid, confirm the VIN and module label with our team before ordering; matching engine displacement alone does not establish the correct application.

There are several part numbers for a 2012 Fusion 2.5L. How do I know this one matches my car?

Send us the VIN and we check the application against this listing for you. A 2012 Fusion 2.5L does not resolve to a single module: search the year and the engine and you get a wall of near identical listings carrying different numbers, which is why matching on a listing title alone goes wrong. Add the numbers printed on the old module's label if it is already out of the car.

My 2012 Fusion has an intermittent no-start and no stored codes. Is the computer the cause?

Not on that evidence alone. An intermittent no-start without stored codes does not establish the cause or rule the PCM out. Have a technician reproduce and diagnose the fault before ordering. A module returned after a misdiagnosis carries the return policy's processing and programming fees.
