2006 Lincoln Zephyr 3.0L PCM for the Duratec V6

This refurbished PCM fits the 2006 Zephyr, which Lincoln built with a single engine: the 3.0L Duratec V6. Buyers also search for it as the ECM, the ECU, the engine control module or simply the engine computer. Those labels all mean this one powertrain control module.

We program each unit to the VIN you send once the order is placed, then run our 13-point quality check on lab equipment that emulates the car's engine, then ship it. The box includes a self-addressed envelope for returning your old computer as the core.

Check the Year, Engine and Label

The Zephyr name and the 3.0L engine go together for one model year only. Lincoln sold the 2006 Zephyr with the 3.0L V6 and a six-speed Aisin automatic. For 2007 it moved the car to a 3.5L V6 and renamed it MKZ, so a 2007-or-later owner should start on our Lincoln Zephyr PCM page.

This listing is catalogued under 10 Ford part numbers in two families:

  • 6E5A-12A650: suffixes ACA, ACB, ACC, ACD, ACE, ACF and AKA
  • 6U7A-12A650: suffixes BJA, BJB and BJC

Each number reads prefix, then 12A650, then suffix. Compare both ends with the sticker on your old unit. A catalogue match is evidence you are on the right listing, not a certified interchange, so contact us with the full label and VIN so the application can be checked before programming.

What to Expect at Installation

On the 2006 Zephyr the anti-theft system (PATS) is run by the instrument cluster, not the engine computer. The cluster stores each ignition key's code, confirms it at start-up and signals the PCM over the car's CAN network before the engine will run.

Ford's service manual for this car calls for a parameter reset of the cluster and the PCM whenever a replacement PCM goes in, so the two modules are paired to each other again. It runs on a diagnostic tool, and it keeps the stored key codes, so it is not the same job as programming new keys.

That is Ford's procedure for the car. It does not tell you which steps we have already completed on the unit we ship, which arrives programmed to your VIN and tested. Phone us with the VIN before ordering, ask what this listing needs at installation, and check with us before a shop does security work on the car.

Other Ways to Replace a 2006 Zephyr Engine Computer

This listing. The computer arrives programmed and tested, so keep the old unit installed until it does. After the swap, mail the old computer back in the return envelope. Send that core in good rebuildable condition within 21 days and the lifetime warranty is active: parts only, up to 2 replacement units while you own the car. A core that ships late can leave the part without coverage, unless a core charge was applied at purchase. Full conditions are on the warranty page. The warranty excludes reprogramming by another source, so confirm our installation and PATS instructions before arranging any additional programming.

Repair, new or used. Car Computer Exchange does not carry new or used modules, and this listing is a replacement rather than a send-in repair. Our article on what a used ECU has to match names four things a secondhand unit must suit: hardware, software, immobilizer data and programming.

BUYER BEWARE! NOT ALL COMPUTER SELLERS ARE EQUAL.

CarComputerExchange fully rebuilds and tests ALL computers. We are the ONLY seller that runs each computer through a computer aided vehicle simulator that tests every circuit in the module. Other companies run limited tests.
Most companies run limited tests. Some online stores simply repaint old units and sell without testing. Don't fall for the CHEAPER option.
Our testing & rebuilding process starts with a deep visual evaluation of the circuit board and all the electronic components. From water or acid corrosion, to fire or burn damage, we pay attention to every detail. We also scan the ECU memory or CPU to make sure that it is working properly.
We then test the ECU's with our proprietary electronic lab equipment on our bench, which emulates the car's engine to ensure accuracy in every diagnosis.

Frequently asked questions

The module bolted to my Zephyr's transmission is labelled "transmission control module." Is that the part this listing replaces?

No, that is a different computer. Ford keeps the six-speed's transmission control module separate from the engine control strategy in the PCM, though some input signals are shared. This listing covers the engine computer alone.

My 2006 Zephyr has a P0606 code and shifts rough from park. Do I need a new PCM?

Not necessarily. Ford bulletin 07-2-3 covers some 2006 Zephyrs built before September 4, 2006 with the 3.0L and the Aisin F21 automatic. Its symptoms include code P0606, rough or jerky shifts from park, a high idle for about 2 minutes after starting and intermittent hard starts. Ford's fix is reprogramming the PCM and TCM to the latest calibration, not new hardware. Have a shop check your build date against the bulletin before you buy.

My old PCM's label shows 6E5A-12A650-ADD or 6U7A-12A650-BHA, which isn't on this listing. Can I still order it?

Check with us by phone first. Those suffixes are not among the 10 numbers this listing is catalogued under. Ford PCMs are matched on the prefix and the suffix, so a different suffix is a question to settle before you order, not after. Have the label and your VIN ready when you call.

My Zephyr cranks but won't start after the PCM swap, and the theft light is flashing. What went wrong?

A rapidly flashing theft indicator, or one lit for more than 3 seconds at ON or START, points to a PATS problem, but it does not show which preparation or repair is missing. Ford's standard procedure includes a cluster and PCM parameter reset; that does not establish what we already completed on this unit. Call us with the VIN before anyone performs additional security programming, and have the PATS fault diagnosed.

What if the PCM doesn't fix the car?

Our return policy allows an authorized return within 60 days of purchase for a refund or exchange. Gas modules carry a 25% processing charge plus a $50 programming fee, so confirm the diagnosis before you order.
