Those born closer to the 21st than 20th century know car commercials as those advertisements that they fast forward through on their DVRs or close out on their Internet browsers. In the period known as “Back in the Day”, television viewers needed to push through the car ads, because many times it was auto manufacturers that sponsored an entire hour of programming.
Take this commercial for the 1952 Chevrolet models. The applause at the end isn’t canned sound supplied by a audio engineer. It was live, as was the announcers read over the camera’s pan-in of the car and the filmed segment.
Notice the heavy mention of safety glass. Those who watched Ohio State Patrol movies in school know was an important advancement in safety during the decade.
