Old West towns have been some of the most popular car advertising backdrops for many years. In this classic 1969 Plymouth Satellite TV commercial, an aerial camera, as if recording from a satellite, slowly zooms in on a western-themed town as a coyote cries out.
The narrator asks if the viewer wants a “Straight shooting deal on a new car” as the camera continues to zoom and then reveals that a Plymouth Satellite is on display in the interior of the Saloon. The narrator then tells the viewer that Plymouth is offering a “Hot Line Special” for 17 vehicles, including 45 percent off the Plymouth Satellite, during the “BoomTown ’69” event being held by Plymouth dealers.
This reference to westerns in 1969 wasn’t merely because of overall trends through the years. In 1969, Dodge was also using an Old West theme, through its The Dodge Brothers campaign, to promote vehicles.
