Ford sees the world as going 4WD. Eight of its seventeen vehicle lines will embrace the change. That’s nearly half of its line. It makes you wonder!
With gas prices being the way they are, people may not be traveling as much as before the gas hikes. You have to wonder if Ford was really concerned about gas consumption.
4WDs typically uses more gas than their 2WD counterparts. They are heavier and of course carry a different set of differential gears. It creates more torque but it wastes more gas.
Most people make the decision to opt for a 4WD based on where they live. Not everyone lives near the mountains or wants to trek down a desert road. It’s a big decision by Ford so we’ll have to wait and see how Ford sales turn out. The one thing for sure is that 4WD will always be popular.
