It was initially unclear what happened to cause a black 2016 Cadillac CTS-V prototype to crash at the Nurburgring. It is a powerful car for sure, at 640 horsepower. The V8 powerhouse was being driven by the expert test drivers of GM when this happened.
According to Brian Williams, super spy photographer, it appears that the car ran into the side of the track and crushed up its left side. Everything in between the tail light and headlamp is smashed. The black car has a completely smashed front left corner, which implies that the crash was quite forceful. However, the car did not succumb completely to the effects of the crash, since it was still able to go all the way around the track and back to the pit lane.
Also, the airbags did not deploy, even though it is admittedly possible that they were just disabled for testing purposes. The details regarding exactly what happened are yet to be known. A recent update from GM spokesman David Caldwell confirms that it was no more than a routine testing accident, and no one was hurt. The car is a little bit banged up, but other than that, everything is fine.
