Funny car drivers have to be members of the NHRA, and funny cars have to meet the standards set by the NHRA’s sanctioning rules and guidelines. The equipment has to pass the test as well. Drivers also have to be able to operate their vehicle safely. These cars race with 1,500 to 8,000 horsepower.
So, drivers have to be able to handle monster power and acceleration and get off the line straight. There are several stages you have to pass for licensure, and they’re all challenging.
