At Car Computer Exchange, we do the heavy lifting when it comes to getting a new engine control module (ECM) or powertrain control module (PCM) for your vehicle. Each module we sell is pre-programmed to your car’s VIN and compatible with all motor sizes, transmissions, and emission types. It arrives in the mail tailored to your specific vehicle and all you have to do is plug and play. There’s no need for a technician and no need to visit an expensive dealer.

Easy, right?

But before you can replace your ECM or PCM yourself, you have to first be able to finds its location.  And to make things a bit more difficult, the location of the ECM often varies from car model to car model. Also, depending on your car’s make and model, the unit itself will be labeled either “Engine Control Module”, “Engine Control Unit”, “Engine Control Computer”, or even “Powertrain Control Module” or “Powertrain Control Unit”.

If you see any of these labels on what looks like a slightly larger computer router or modem with tons of wires connected to it, then you’ve found it.

How Do I Find the Location of My Dodge ECM?

It is always a good idea to consult your vehicle’s owner’s manual to find the exact location of your Dodge’s PCM, but typically they are found in the engine compartment, under the passenger floorboard, under the seats, or behind the kick panels. To make things a little bit easier for you, we’ve gathered the locations of the PCM in different popular Dodge models.

Dodge Durango – The PCM in your Dodge Durango is located on the right (passenger side) of the engine compartment, outside of the engine firewall.

Dodge RAM 1500 – Same as the Durango, the Dodge RAM 1500 PCM is located in the engine compartment, on right side of firewall.

Dodge Grand Caravan – The PCM in a Dodge Caravan is located on driver side behind front headlight next to radiator. The fuse/relay box is located right behind it.

Dodge Avenger – The car computer module on a Dodge Avenger is located under the hood, close to the battery, mounted to a bracket. If your Avenger is an automatic transmission then the bracket will hold the ECM and TCM (transmission control module). If it is a 5 speed, then there is only an ECM.

Dodge Charger – A Dodge Charger’s PCM is located in engine compartment on the passenger side. You’ll find it close to the windshield by the factory strut tower brace.

Dodge Challenger – The PCM for the Challenger is located under the hood on the passenger side, near the cowl (the front part of the vehicle’s frame that supports the rear of the hood).

If you are having a problem with your Dodge’s PCM or ECM, then the best thing to do is to get it replaced as soon as possible. At Car Computer Exchange, we will do the programming for you. All you have to do is locate where the computer is on your vehicle, remove the old one, and plug in the new one. It’s as simple as that!
