John Belushi was funny. It’s sad that he left the world prematurely. This is a funny skit that made him famous on SNL, “Samurai Delicatessen.” He had the ability to take a theme and work it until it was cooked. Keep in mind too that his sword appears to be sharp because he’s cutting meat with it. He breaks bread over his head and it’s funny. He smashes eggs with his hands. And he spreads mayonnaise with his sword! He throws up a tomato in the air and cuts it in half. That takes talent and Belushi has it.
Belushi is about take his own life, “fall on his sword” but he’s stopped by his customer in the nick of time. Check out this video and you realize that he was able to create comedy on the spot with very few props. After all, he had to. SNL was often filmed before a live audience.
