Once upon a time, car manufacturers spent tens of thousands of dollars to come up with catchy jingles for their vehicle commercials. Sung by chipper ladies and gentlemen, the ads made one feel everything was right in America. Even ads for the muscle cars of that time featured orchestrated, original music requested by the companies.
And then Michael Jackson arrived and produced a Pepsi commercial to the tune of his song “Billie Jean”. The original jingles went away and popular music reigned on car commercials. Such is the case with the Dodge Predator ad, though the use of Phil Collins’ “In the Air Tonight” in question. Why not a heavier rocker to promote a powerful vehicle like the Predator. Perhaps something from Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden, or Celine Dion would have been a better match.
