2005 Dodge Dakota PCM for the 3.7L V6 and 4.7L V8
This refurbished PCM replaces the engine computer in a 2005 Dodge Dakota. It arrives programmed to your truck's VIN and tested. One listing covers the two engines it names, the 3.7L V6 and the 4.7L V8, on automatic and manual trucks, so there is no engine option to choose at checkout.
PCM stands for powertrain control module. Buyers also know it as the ECM, the ECU or simply the engine computer. On this listing those names all mean the same unit.
What to Match Before You Order
Four details help us check the application: the VIN, the engine, the transmission and the number on the PCM already in the truck. Confirm the diagnosis separately before ordering.
- VIN: it goes to us after you pay, through the website, email or a phone call. Programming and the 13-point quality check both happen with it on file.
- Engine: know whether your Dakota has the V6 or the V8, so you can compare it with the label on the old unit.
- Transmission: the listing names both automatic and manual trucks. Note which one you drive when you send the VIN.
- The number on your old PCM: copy it from the label on the module you are pulling and keep it with the VIN.
- A confirmed diagnosis: codes and symptoms can be reasons to test the PCM. On their own they do not show that it failed.
Unsure about the engine, the transmission or the label number? Call us before the order goes in, with both in front of you. For the long version of these checks, read how to tell you are buying the right PCM. Shipping follows once your VIN arrives and programming and testing are finished.
What to Expect at Installation
The unit arrives programmed to your VIN and tested. Before you arrange any extra programming or anti-theft work, call our team with your VIN and your label number and ask what this listing needs at installation. If a shop is fitting it, have them call first.
Replacement, Repair, New or Used
Four routes exist for a 2005 Dakota whose PCM has failed. They differ in how long the truck sits and in where the programming work happens.
- This listing, a refurbished replacement: the PCM arrives set to your VIN and already tested, and your old unit returns to us as the core.
- Repair of your original: the Dakota stays parked while its PCM is shipped off and fixed. What this page sells is a replacement.
- New from a Dodge dealer: Car Computer Exchange carries no new OEM units. Before comparing, check that the dealer's figure includes programming and the labor to fit it.
- Used from a salvage yard: salvage modules are outside our range too. A pulled unit needs a number that matches your old PCM's label, and it carries the donor truck's programming, so it is not a straight swap.
Core Return, Warranty and Returns
Your old PCM is the core. It comes back to us in the self-addressed envelope packed with the replacement. Send it in good rebuildable condition within 21 days and the lifetime warranty is active: unlimited mileage, parts only, up to 2 replacement units while you own the truck.
A core that ships late can leave the replacement without coverage, unless a core charge was applied when you bought it. A missing core can trigger a charge equal to 50% of the purchase price, depending on the order terms and any core charge applied at purchase. The warranty page carries the full conditions, including the 21-day window.
If the replacement does not fix the fault, our return policy allows an authorized return within 60 days of purchase for a refund or exchange. Gas modules carry a 25% processing fee plus $50 for programming, and damage should be reported within 5 days of delivery.
Other model years sit on our Dodge Dakota PCM page.

We are the ONLY company that runs every computer through a computer aided vehicle simulator to test for quality and compatibility with your car & VIN.
OVER 150,000 Customers Served
Every unit is programmed & tested in our facility in Cary NC
CarComputerExchange fully rebuilds and tests ALL computers. We are the ONLY seller that runs each computer through a computer aided vehicle simulator that tests every circuit in the module. Other companies run limited tests.
Most companies run limited tests. Some online stores simply repaint old units and sell without testing. Don't fall for the CHEAPER option.
Our testing & rebuilding process starts with a deep visual evaluation of the circuit board and all the electronic components. From water or acid corrosion, to fire or burn damage, we pay attention to every detail. We also scan the ECU memory or CPU to make sure that it is working properly.
We then test the ECU's with our proprietary electronic lab equipment on our bench, which emulates the car's engine to ensure accuracy in every diagnosis.
