2001 Dodge Ram Truck PCM for the Gas 3.9L, 5.2L and 5.9L Engines
This refurbished powertrain control module (PCM) is the engine computer for the 2001 Dodge Ram truck with the gas 3.9L V6, 5.2L V8 or 5.9L V8. It is a complete replacement unit, not a repair of the module in your truck.
We program it to your VIN and run it through our 13-point quality check on a computer-aided vehicle simulator before it ships. Your order waits on the VIN, so send it as soon as the order is placed. Once the replacement is in the truck, your original PCM comes back to us as the core.
What to Match Before You Order
Four details help our team check whether this listing is right for your truck.
- Engine: gas 3.9L V6, 5.2L V8 or 5.9L V8. The 8.0L V10 and the 5.9L Cummins diesel use different listings.
- Transmission: this listing names the 42RE and 46RE automatics. A manual transmission is not listed.
- The number on your old PCM: read it off the label and keep it with your VIN.
- VIN: the replacement is programmed to it.
If your truck has a manual transmission, or any detail above doesn't line up, call the number at the top of this page before you order. Have your VIN and that label number ready. Our guide to buying the right PCM explains why year, make, model, engine size and the number on the module all count.
2001 Ram V10 and Cummins Diesel Trucks Use Separate Listings
This listing covers the gas V6 and V8 engines only.
- 8.0L V10 owners order the 2001 Dodge Ram V10 PCM, the same truck and year with the bigger engine.
- The 5.9L Cummins diesel uses different modules again. We sell a 2001 Ram Pickup diesel ECM (engine mount) as a replacement, and a 2001 Ram Cummins diesel PCM repair service where you send your own module in.
These diesel listings cover different applications and modules. Do not order them for this gas PCM listing.
What to Expect at Installation
The PCM arrives programmed to your VIN and tested on our simulator. Before you arrange any extra programming, call our team with your VIN and the number from your old module and ask what this listing needs at installation. If a shop is fitting it, have them call first.
A Code on Its Own Doesn't Prove the PCM Failed
A stored trouble code or a no-start can be a reason to test the PCM. Neither confirms that it has failed. Have the cause diagnosed before replacing the PCM, because a returned gas module carries a 25% processing fee and a $50 programming fee. Our return policy sets out the 60-day money-back period from purchase, and every return needs authorizing before you ship it.
Core Return and Warranty
The core is your original 2001 Ram PCM. Send it back in good rebuildable condition, in the postage-paid packaging that came with your replacement, within 21 days. That return activates the lifetime warranty.
A core that ships late can leave the replacement without coverage, unless a core charge was applied when you bought it. A missing core can trigger a charge equal to 50% of the purchase price, depending on the order terms and any core charge applied at purchase. The warranty page carries the full conditions, including the 21-day window.

OVER 150,000 Customers Served
Every unit is programmed & tested in our facility in Cary NC
CarComputerExchange fully rebuilds and tests ALL computers. We are the ONLY seller that runs each computer through a computer aided vehicle simulator that tests every circuit in the module. Other companies run limited tests.
Most companies run limited tests. Some online stores simply repaint old units and sell without testing. Don't fall for the CHEAPER option.
Our testing & rebuilding process starts with a deep visual evaluation of the circuit board and all the electronic components. From water or acid corrosion, to fire or burn damage, we pay attention to every detail. We also scan the ECU memory or CPU to make sure that it is working properly.
We then test the ECU's with our proprietary electronic lab equipment on our bench, which emulates the car's engine to ensure accuracy in every diagnosis.
