2002 Lincoln Blackwood PCM: One Engine, One Transmission, One Listing
This is a refurbished engine computer for the 2002 Lincoln Blackwood pickup, sold to replace a failed original. It is the powertrain control module, also called the ECM, the ECU or the engine computer.
We program each one to the owner's VIN and run it through our 13-point quality check on a vehicle simulator that mimics the truck's engine, transmission, emissions and anti-theft systems. After checkout, send the VIN online, by email or by phone. Programming happens before shipping.
Matching the part to your truck is simple, because every 2002 Blackwood shared one powertrain:
- Engine: the 5.4L DOHC 32-valve InTech V8
- Transmission: the 4R100 four-speed automatic
- Drive: rear-wheel drive only
The single powertrain narrows the application, but keep the original-module label with the VIN so our team can check the match before programming.
This PCM Also Shifts the 4R100 Automatic
The Blackwood's PCM controls the 4R100 transmission as well as the 5.4L engine. Ford's service information gives it three transmission jobs: shift timing, line pressure (shift feel) and torque converter clutch operation. There is no second computer to buy for the transmission on this truck.
That also means a shifting complaint can trace back to the engine computer or to the transmission itself. Our guide to bad ECM symptoms lists the signs worth checking before you order.
What to Expect at Installation
On the Blackwood, the instrument cluster stores the key codes and carries out the Passive Anti-Theft System (PATS) functions. It reads each key through a transceiver under the ignition lock and then signals the PCM to enable the engine.
Ford's service information treats a replacement PCM as a job that needs a diagnostic tool: the cluster and PCM share security data once installed together, and the vehicle identification (VID) block, which holds data such as the VIN, tire size and axle ratio, is programmed at installation. Ford service bulletin 02-23-4 names the 2002 Blackwood and ties a missed VID step to speedometer faults and codes P1635 or P1639.
That is Ford's procedure for the vehicle. It does not tell you which of those steps we have already completed on the unit we ship, which arrives programmed to your VIN and tested. Call our team with the VIN before you order and ask what this listing needs at installation, and check with us before a shop does security work on the truck. Lines are open Monday to Friday.
Replacing a Failed Blackwood Engine Computer
This refurbished listing. Your old PCM goes back to us in the postage-paid envelope packed with the replacement. Send it in good rebuildable condition within 21 days and the lifetime warranty is active. A core that ships late can leave the replacement without coverage, unless a core charge was applied at purchase. The warranty page carries the full conditions. The warranty excludes reprogramming by another source, so confirm our installation and security instructions before arranging any additional programming.
Repair, new or secondhand. Car Computer Exchange does not list a Blackwood repair service and does not sell new or used modules, so this listing is a replacement.
Other Blackwood engine computers sit on our Lincoln Blackwood PCM page.

OVER 150,000 Customers Served
Every unit is programmed & tested in our facility in Cary NC
CarComputerExchange fully rebuilds and tests ALL computers. We are the ONLY seller that runs each computer through a computer aided vehicle simulator that tests every circuit in the module. Other companies run limited tests.
Most companies run limited tests. Some online stores simply repaint old units and sell without testing. Don't fall for the CHEAPER option.
Our testing & rebuilding process starts with a deep visual evaluation of the circuit board and all the electronic components. From water or acid corrosion, to fire or burn damage, we pay attention to every detail. We also scan the ECU memory or CPU to make sure that it is working properly.
We then test the ECU's with our proprietary electronic lab equipment on our bench, which emulates the car's engine to ensure accuracy in every diagnosis.
