Through the years, Dodge has sold a lot of vehicles by using word play with the company’s name in different forms of advertising. This video features a classic 1969 Dodge Monaco ad that plays on the name in a fun way.
The ad begins with a wildlife photographer trying to get the perfect shot of a rhino charging at him. Someone off screen has mentioned “Dodge Fever” to him and he thinks the person is jokingly telling him to dodge out of the way even though he won’t get the shot if he dodges.
The ad then cuts back and forth between the photographer and a young woman presenting the Dodge Monaco and its many features. At one point, the photographer says, “You only get one crack at this sort of thing” before the woman appears again. The double meaning in that moment and the scenes after it is clear.
