Hackers Remotely Kill a Jeep on the Highway—With Me in It

Sometimes hackers are on the side of good, and when they are, they can come up with some interesting ideas of how to boost security protocols.

Two hackers spent an entire year developing a piece of software that can wirelessly sabotage a 2014 Jeep Cherokee from mile away. The hack is possible by hacking a cellular connection to the Jeep’s entertainment system.

The attack can be launched over the Internet. The hacker can take control over the vehicles, steering, transmission, and ever its break system.

It’s an amazing, controlled demonstration. The tricks start small. The AC comes on, and the radio starts to blast. The driver has no control over the music’s volume. The windshield wipers suddenly engage, and visibility is near zero.

Even though it’s a controlled situation, the driver is close to panicking. Then, the worst happens. The hackers kill the engine. You can clearly see the driver’s now in panic mode.

He’s told to turn off the ignition key so that things can return to normal.

Check out the video to learn more about how the hackers gained control.
