World’s Biggest Fire Truck Ever Built

It’s known as “Big Wind,” and was used to put out the fires in Kuwait oil fields set by Saddam Hussein’s retreating armies in 1991. The vehicle is comprised of two 10-foot-long-MiG fighter jet engines that are mounted on top of a 46-ton tank. It’s an ultimate fire-fighting weapon that can generate 27,000 pounds of thrust. It can also expel 8,000 gallons of water per minute—but from where? Amazing, no doubt, but, what would be the purpose of the jet engines in the rear? Especially since the vehicle is sitting on treads. Here’s the answer! Those jet engines products 27,000 pounds of thrust to disperse water. One automatically assumes that a jet engine will spit out fire.

This is amazing. At 2:20 into the video, these amazing engines go to work to put out an oil fire within minutes. Of course, the only thing that would slow down the operation is refueling with additional water. Those oil field fires could be seen from space at the time, and would have seriously contaminated the earth’s atmosphere. “Big Wind” got the job done.
